NEW YORK, Oct 26 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks extended gains shortly after the open on Monday, with the Nasdaq composite index rising more than 1 percent.
Among the leaders on the technology-heavy index, Microsoft Corp was up 2.4 percent at $28.66 after a number of price target upgrades from brokerages.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 85.85 points, or 0.86 percent, at 10,058.03. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 10.64 points, or 0.99 percent, at 1,090.24. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 23.85 points, or 1.11 percent, at 2,178.32.
