NEW YORK, Aug 12 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks climbed on Wednesday, boosted by a bounce in financial shares, while semiconductor stocks gained after Applied Materials said it would at least break even this quarter.
* The Dow Jones industrial average gained 96.58 points, or 1.05 percent, to 9,338.03. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 10.23 points, or 1.03 percent, to 1,004.58. The Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 27.40 points, or 1.39 percent, to 1,997.13.
