NEW YORK, July 8 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks turned higher in late trading on Wednesday, and shares of Alcoa Inc briefly rose more than 1 percent ahead of reporting results.
Alcoa is expected to report its quarterly results after the market close, marking the unofficial start for the quarterly reporting period.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 6.12 points, or 0.07 percent, at 8,169.72. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 2.21 points, or 0.25 percent, at 878.82, after briefly trading higher. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 0.05 points, or 0.00 percent, at 1,746.22. (Editing by Leslie Adler)
