TOKYO, June 17 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei stock average rose 0.9 percent on Wednesday, with Sanyo Electric jumping 14.3 percent after saying it had secured buyers for its batteries that are used in hybrid cars.
The benchmark Nikkei rose 87.97 points to 9,840.85, regaining some ground after Tuesday's 2.9 percent slide, which was its biggest one-day percentage fall since March 30.
The broader Topix rose 0.90 percent to 923.03. (Reporting by Masayuki Kitano)
