TOKYO, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average rose 0.7 percent on Monday after a historic victory by the opposition in Sunday's national election, though some exporters such as Canon Inc came under pressure from a stronger yen.
The benchmark Nikkei added 74.02 points to 10,608.16, after rising 0.6 percent on Friday.
The broader Topix gained 0.6 percent to 974.87.
Japanese voters swept the opposition Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) to victory, ousting the long-ruling conservative Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and handing the novice Democrats the job of reviving a struggling economy. (Reporting by Aiko Hayashi)
