TOKYO, July 9 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average fell 0.8 percent on Thursday, with exporters hit after the yen surged to a 4-1/2-month high against the dollar the previous day on mounting doubts about the health of the global economy.
The benchmark Nikkei fell 78.42 points to 9,342.33. The broader Topix retreated 0.9 percent to 880.83. (Reporting by Shinichi Saoshiro)
