TOKYO, June 24 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average edged up 0.5 percent on Wednesday, with Mitsubishi Corp and other resource shares higher after oil prices rose over 2 percent the previous day. Showa Shell Sekiyu was untraded and overwhelmed with buy orders after the Nikkei business daily reported that it plans to work with Saudi Arabian Oil Co to jointly set up small-scale solar power facilities in Saudi Arabia next year and later in emerging countries.
The benchmark Nikkei gained 48.07 points to 9,597.68, while the broader Topix gained 0.4 percent to 905.43.
