Investing.com – Canadian retail sales excluding automobiles dropped unexpectedly in April from a month earlier, official data showed on Wednesday.
In a report, Canada's statistics office said core retail sales dropped 1.2% during the month, after growing 1.7% in March.
Economists had expected retail sale to be flat in April.
Following the release of the data, the loonie was down against its U.S. counterpart, with USD/CAD jumping 0.73% to hit 1.0368.
