Investing.com – U.S. Treasury International Capital rose significantly more-than-expected in November, official data showed on Wednesday.
In a report, the U.S. Department of the Treasury said that net foreign purchases of long-term securities totaled USD59.8 billion in November, up sharply from purchases of USD8.3 billion in November, whose figure was revised from a previously reported USD4.8 billion.
Analysts had expected Treasury International Capital purchases to climb to USD27.3 billion in November.
According to the data, Japan’s purchases surged to USD59.9 billion, after buying USD22.2 billion of U.S. Treasuries in October.
The U.K. purchased USD18.2 billion of U.S. Treasuries in November, after offloading USD10.4 billion in September.
China sold USD1.5 billion in U.S. Treasuries in November, after selling USD10.4 billion in the preceding month.
Following the release of the data, the U.S. dollar remained lower against the euro, with EUR/USD rising 0.6% to trade at 1.2814.
Meanwhile, U.S. stock index futures pointed to a mixed open. The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures pointed to a drop of 0.15%, S&P 500 futures shed 0.1%, while the Nasdaq 100 futures indicated a gain of 0.2%.
