Investing.com - Total non-farm payroll employment in the U.S. declined less-than-expected in August, official data showed on Friday.
In a report, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said nonfarm payroll employment declined by a seasonally adjusted 54,000 in August, after falling 54,000 in July, whose figure was revised down from 131,000.
Analysts had expected non-farm payrolls to decline by 101,000 in August.
The report said that federal government employment fell, as 114,000 temporary workers hired for the decennial census completed their work.
Meanwhile, private-sector payroll employment continued to trend up modestly adding 67,000 jobs in August, after adding a revised 107,000 jobs in July.
The report also showed the rate of unemployment was a seasonally adjusted 9.6% in August, up from 9.5% in July.
