Investing.com – The number of building permits issued in the U.S. fell unexpectedly in November, official data showed on Thursday.
In a report, the U.S. Census Bureau said the number of building permits issued in November was a seasonally adjusted 0.53 million, down from 0.55 million in October.
Analysts had expected building permits to rise to 0.57 million in November.
The report also said that U.S. housing starts rose more-than-expected in November, rising to a seasonally adjusted 0.56 million, after falling to 0.53 million in October, whose figure was revised up from 0.52 million.
Analysts had expected housing starts to rise to 0.55 million in November.
Following the release of the data, the U.S. dollar was down against the euro, with EUR/USD gaining 0.18% to hit 1.3238.
Meanwhile, the outlook for U.S. equity markets was upbeat: Dow Jones Industrial Average futures pointed to a gain of 0.07%, S&P 500 futures pointed to a rise of 0.08%, while the Nasdaq 100 futures were up 0.16%.
