Investing.com – The number of building permits issued in the U.S. fell more-than-expected in July, official data showed on Tuesday.
In a report, the U.S. Census Bureau said the number of building permits issued in July fell 3.2% to a seasonally adjusted 0.60 million, down from 0.62 million in June.
Analysts had expected building permits to decline 1.9% to 0.61 million units in July.
U.S. housing starts fell 1.5% in July to hit a seasonally adjusted 0.60 million, broadly in line with expectations.
The previous month’s figure was revised down to 0.62 million from 0.63 million.
Following the release of the data, the U.S. dollar was up against the euro, with EUR/USD shedding 0.41% to trade at 1.4384.
Meanwhile, U.S. stock future indices added to losses after the release of the data.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell 1.2%, S&P 500 futures dropped 1.4%, while the Nasdaq 100 futures pointed to a loss of 1.25%.
