Investing.com – New Zealand’s employment change rose less-than-expected in the third quarter, official data showed on Thursday.
In a report, Statistics New Zealand said that N.Z. employment change rose by a seasonally adjusted 0.2% in the third quarter, falling short of expectations for a 0.6% increase.
The previous quarter’s figure was revised up to a 0.1% increase from a previously reported flat reading.
The report showed that New Zealand’s unemployment rate rose to 6.6% in the third quarter, up from 6.5% in the preceding quarter. Analysts had expected the jobless rate to fall to 6.4%.
Following the release of the data, the New Zealand dollar was down against its U.S. counterpart, with NZD/USD tumbling 1.06% to trade at 0.7831.
