Investing.com – The unemployment rate in New Zealand fell more-than-expected in the third-quarter, official data showed on Thursday.
In a report, Statistics New Zealand said the rate of unemployment declined to 6.4% in the third-quarter, down from 6.9% in the second-quarter, whose figure was revised from 6.8%.
Analysts had expected the rate of unemployment to fall to 6.7% in the third-quarter.
According to the data, the number of employed people in New Zealand rose by 1.0% in the third-quarter, compared to a decline of 0.2% in the preceding quarter, whose figure was revised from a decline of 0.3%.
Analysts had expected the number of employed people in New Zealand to rise by 0.5% in the third-quarter.
Following the release of the data, the New Zealand dollar was up against its U.S. counterpart, with NZD/USD gaining 0.64% to hit 0.7848.
