Investing.com - The euro zone unemployment rate declined in December, falling to a fresh seven-year low, according to official data released on Tuesday.
Eurostat, the European Union’s statistics agency, said the unemployment rate fell to 9.6% from a downwardly revised 9.7% in November. Economists had expected a reading of 9.8%.
It is the lowest unemployment rate recorded in the euro zone since May 2009.
The jobless rate in the 28-member European Union was unchanged 8.2% in December. This remains the lowest rate recorded in the EU since February 2009.
