Investing.com - Canadian retail sales rose 2.0% in May, Statistics Canada said on Friday.
This was compared to a decline of 0.9% in the previous month that was revised higher from an initial drop of 1.2%
Economists had forecast a reading of 1.1%.
The report showed that sales rose in 8 of 11 subsectors, representing 70% of retail trade.
“Higher sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers and at gasoline stations were the main contributors to the gain in May,” Statistics Canada noted.
Excluding these two subsectors, retail sales were up 0.9%.
