Investing.com - Retail sales in Canada unexpectedly fell in June, official data showed on Friday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said that Canadian, retail sales dropped 0.1% in June, worse than the forecast for an increase of 0.5% and compared to the 0.2% advance in the prior month.
Core retail sales, excluding automobiles, also surprised , falling by a seasonally adjusted 0.8%, after a 0.8% increase the preceding month that was revised from the original gain of 0.9%.
Analysts had expected Canadian core retail sales to rise 0.3% in June.
After the report, which was released simultaneously with inflation data, USD/CAD traded at 1.2877, compared to 1.2836 prior to the release.
