Investing.com - Foreign investors’ acquisitions of Canadian securities increased more-than-expected in September, official data showed on Monday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said that foreign investment increased by a seasonally adjusted CAD8.36 billion in September, compared to expectations for a rise of CAD6.71 billion.
Foreign investors purchased CAD2.08 billion worth of Canadian securities in August.
Non-resident investors added equities while reducing their holdings of debt securities over the month.
Meanwhile, Canadian investors reduced their holdings of foreign securities in the month by CAD1.5 billion, including both debt and equity securities.
Following the release of the data, the Canadian dollar remained higher against its U.S. counterpart, with USD/CAD shedding 0.2% to trade at 1.0417.
