Investing.com - Foreign investors’ acquisitions of Canadian securities increased less-than-expected in January, official data showed on Monday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said that foreign investment increased by a seasonally adjusted C$1.09 billion in January, below expectations for purchases of C$3.24 billion.
Foreign investors sold C$4.28 billion worth of Canadian securities in December.
At the same time, Canadian investors added C$2.3 billion of foreign securities to their holdings in January, a fourth straight month of such investment.
Following the release of the data, the Canadian dollar was higher against its U.S. counterpart, with USD/CAD shedding 0.37% to trade at 1.1063.
