Investing.com - The number of new building permits issued in Canada rose significantly more-than-expected in March, official data showed on Monday.
In a report, Statistic Canada said the number of new building permits issued rose by a seasonally adjusted 8.6% in March, blowing past expectations for a 1% increase.
February’s figure was revised to a 1.5% gain from a previously reported increase of 1.7%.
The total value of building permits rose to CAD6.5 billion in March. The March increase came mostly from the non-residential sector in Ontario and Alberta.
Following the release of the data, the Canadian dollar was little changed against its U.S. counterpart, with USD/CAD easing down 0.01% to trade at 1.0082.
