Investing.com - Canada’s trade deficit widened unexpectedly in July, as exports fell 3.4% and imports decreased 2.2%, official data showed on Tuesday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said that Canada’ trade deficit widened to CAD2.3 billion in July, compared to expectations for a deficit of CAD1.0 billion.
Canada’s trade deficit for June was revised to CAD1.9 billion, from a previously reported deficit of CAD1.8 billion.
Canada's exports fell to CAD37.7 billion in July, while imports decreased to CAD40.1 billion.
Following the release of the data, the Canadian dollar held on to gains against its U.S. counterpart, with USD/CAD shedding 0.49% to trade at 0.9729.
