Investing.com - Canada's trade deficit widened less than expected in December, as exports grew 1.5% and imports rose 2.3%, official data showed on Thursday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said that Canada’s trade deficit was C$650 million in December, compared to a deficit of C$340 million in November, whose figure was revised from a previously reported deficit of C$640 million.
Analysts had expected Canada to post a trade deficit of C$1.0 billion in December.
Canada's merchandise exports edged up 1.5% to C$44.06 billion and imports increased 2.3% to C$44.70 billion in December.
USD/CAD was trading at 1.2468 from around 1.2510 ahead of the release of the data.
