Investing.com – Canadian manufacturing sales fell unexpectedly in February, official data showed on Wednesday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said that manufacturing sales fell by a seasonally adjusted -1.5% in February, after jumping by 4.4% in January, whose figure was revised down from 4.5%.
Economists had expected manufacturing sales to rise by 0.6% in February.
According to the data, manufacturing sales in February fell to CAD47.1 billion. While lower sales were widespread, the decrease was mostly concentrated in the transportation equipment industry in Central Canada.
Following the release of the data, the Canadian dollar was down against its U.S. counterpart, with USD/CAD rising 0.34% to hit 0.9656.
