NEW YORK, Oct 30 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks extended losses on Friday, weighed down by financial shares as reports painting a mixed economic picture dashed some hopes brought by the economy's return to growth.
The day after logging their best gains in three months following data showing a third-quarter rise in gross domestic product, all three major indexes slid more than 1 percent.
Friday's data showed Midwest area manufacturing was strong, but consumer sentiment slipped this month.
The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 141.40 points, or 1.42 percent, to 9,821.18. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 15.50 points, or 1.45 percent, to 1,050.61. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 27.36 points, or 1.30 percent, to 2,070.19. (Reporting by Rodrigo Campos; Editing by Jan Paschal)
