Investing.com – Australian job advertisements in newspapers and on the Internet rose in August for the fourth consecutive month, data showed on Monday.
In a report, the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group showed that the number of jobs advertised rose by a seasonally adjusted 2.6% in August, following a 1.4% gain in July, whose figure was revised up from 1.3%.
Year-on-year, total job advertisements on the internet and in newspapers increased by 36.1%.
Commenting on the data, ANZ chief economist Warren Hogan said, “The pick up in job advertisements in recent months suggests Australian businesses are confident about the local outlook despite the uncertain global economic environment. This suggests the Australian economy is maintaining good momentum into the second half of 2010.”
Following the release of the data, the Aussie was up against the U.S. dollar, with AUD/USD gaining 0.10% to hit 0.9176.
