Investing.com - Australian employment change declined unexpectedly in December, official data showed on Thursday.
In a report, Australian Bureau of Statistics said that Australian employment change fell by a seasonally adjusted 29,300 in December, confounding expectations for a gain of 10,000.
November’s figure was revised to a drop of 7,500 from a previously reported 6,300 decline.
The report also showed that Australia’s unemployment rate held steady at 5.2%, compared to expectations for a modest increase to 5.3%. November’s figure was revised down from 5.3% to 5.2%.
Following the release of the data, the Australian dollar was down against its U.S. counterpart, with AUD/USD shedding 0.51% to trade at 1.0379.
