NEW YORK, Jan 5 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks opened lower on Wednesday with materials shares weaker on falling commodity prices, but losses were capped after a report showed a big jump in new private-sector jobs.
The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 27.05 points, or 0.23 percent, to 11,664.13. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index shed 3.61 points, or 0.28 percent, to 1,266.59. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 7.18 points, or 0.27 percent, to 2,674.07.
