In September 2021, the micro-blogging platform Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) launched a tipping feature, allowing its users to send Bitcoin to any content creator of their choice. Now, Ethereum wallet addresses have been included for Twitter-native tipping.

Twitter Expands to Include Ethereum

On Wednesday, February 16, Twitter announced that it is expanding its creator tipping feature. As part of its latest expansion, Twitter now allows users above the age of 18 can now send and accept ETH tips, in addition to Bitcoin.

To accept ETH tips, Twitter users will need to enable the tipping features and add an Ethereum address to the dedicated section of their profile. Users keep 100% of the tips they receive, as payments are facilitated through third-party services, not Twitter.

However, at the moment, it is unclear whether Twitter will allow other tokens on the Ethereum blockchain, such as ERC-20 tokens and stablecoins, to be sent as Tips.

More Payment Services are Now Available

In addition to including Ethereum for tipping, Twitter has added three new payment services, including Barter, Paga, and Paytm.

Paga and Barter offer more of their services in Nigeria and Africa, while Paytm serves 333 million consumers primarily in India. Twitter users in these regions now have more options to choose from when digitally tipping people.

According to Johnny Winston, lead product manager of creator monetization at Twitter, the company will continue “to expand ways to get paid on Twitter which includes more choices for creators and fans who want to use crypto.”
