    • Spotify (NYSE:SPOT) announces collaboration with Roblox through “Spotify Island.”
    • The collaboration will allow fans and artists to interact in a shared virtual space.
    • K-Park, a themed island, will be a K-Pop homage that will come in spring 2022.

On May 3, Spotify announced through a blogpost its entry to the metaverse in collaboration with Roblox named “Spotify Island.” The collaboration pulls together fans and artists globally to a shared virtual space to explore a “wonderland of sounds, quests, and exclusive merch.” In detail, Roblox users can mingle with artists, unlock exclusive content, and complete interactive quests.

The main Spotify Island will act as a hub for future theme islands that will be released throughout the year. These themed islands will contain exclusive content, artist interactions, and themed mini-quests.

Coming later this spring, K-Park will be the first themed island of the collaboration. The island will be an homage to K-Pop and will give fans the chance to interact with Korean artists Stray Kids and SUNMI.

Spotify will be the first music-streaming brand to collaborate and have a presence on Roblox through Spotify Island. Through the collaboration, Spotify offers immersive audio experiences with Soundtrap. Additionally, users will be able to create music and explore sounds at Soundtrap’s virtual beat-maker stations.

Through Spotify Island, Spotify aims to connect artists with fans, as well as partner with them to create in-game virtual merchandise. Regarding merchandise, Spotify claims it will give a portion of sales directly back to the artists.

Since January 2022, there have been approximately 2,000 metaverse-related applications filed to the US Patent and Trademark Office. These applications have come from companies such as Playboy, Dunkin, KFC, Hooters, PizzaHut, Taco Bell, Ralph Lauren (NYSE:RL), and more.
