- MIT Scientist Lex Fridman believes Satoshi Nakamoto should win the Nobel Prize.
- The crypto community agrees and thinks it is long overdue.
- Interestingly, the Bitcoin creator was nominated for the Nobel Prize in 2015.
MIT Research Scientist and popular YouTuber Lex Fridman believes that the elusive Satoshi Nakamoto should win the Nobel Prize. This tweet comes a day after Ben Bernanke, Douglas Diamond, and Philip Dybvig were announced as this year’s laureates in the Economic Sciences.
Satoshi Nakamoto should win the Nobel Prize.— Lex Fridman (@lexfridman) October 10, 2022
With over two million followers on YouTube, the Russian-American computer scientist is a prominent name in the artificial intelligence domain. In his podcast, Fridman interviews pre-eminent names in not just crypto but all scientific fields.
Notably, this is not the first time Fridman has expressed this opinion. Back in 2021, the researcher had tweeted the exact same opinion to which the popular Bitcoin Maximalist Michael Saylor had replied. “Yes,” and further added “Bitcoin is the first engineered monetary network. Satoshi brought the principles of mathematics, science, & engineering to the field of economics with an invention that has the potential to improve the lives of billions of people. That definitely merits the Nobel Prize.”
Interestingly, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin was nominated for the Nobel Prize in 2015. The proposal for this nomination was sent by Bhagwan Chowdhry, an economics professor at the University of California in the United States. According to the researcher, Nakamoto deserved the much-coveted award because Bitcoin was “nothing short of revolutionary.”
However, the Nobel prize committee rejected the idea, stating that the award would not be granted to someone who was anonymous. At the time, the community was disheartened at this response, as many believed that the economic genius was worthy of the prestigious honor.
Some others believed that the prospect of the Nobel prize, the highest recognition of our time, would lure Nakamoto from hiding. These people were proved wrong, and Satoshi Nakamoto remains the biggest mystery of the digital age.
