Twitter has recently added a feature to connect users’ crypto wallet to their Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) account to update an authorized hexagonal profile picture. Reddit is following the trend by testing out the NFT profile picture option for its users.
Reddit has been into NFTs for a while now. The platform released its own NFT drop ‘CryptoSnoos’ last year and is currently testing its own NFTs for executing the feature. However, the NFT profile picture option wouldn’t be limited to Reddit’s collection.
“We’re always exploring ways to provide value for users and communities on Reddit. At the moment we’re testing the ability to use NFTs as profile pictures (avatars) and verify ownership. It’s a small, internal test and no decisions have been made about expanding or rolling out the capability,” Reddit’s spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt told TechCrunch.
"It’s still unclear when the testing period for Reddit NFT profile pictures ends and when the feature will be implemented."
On the Flipside
- Redditors are concerned about high NFT prices, and many still mock their ‘uselessness’ and being able to ‘right-click and save’ any image of an NFT. “I am not spending 200-ish dollar on a fancy reddit avatar,” one user wrote.
