  • Polygon launches its zkEVM’s public testnet.
  • Aave and Uniswap will be among the first projects on the zkEVM testnet.
  • Polygon wants everyone to try out the testnet.

The “next chapter for Ethereum,” as Polygon, a decentralized Ethereum scaling protocol, puts it in its latest blog post, has begun with the launch of Polygon zkEVM Public Testnet. Polygon has said that it aims to replace Ethereum’s primary scalable mechanism by using zero-knowledge (zk) roll-up technology. Among the first to deploy on the zkEVM testnet are projects like Aave, Lens Protocols, and Uniswap.

Regarding the launch, Polygon says:

Announcing Polygon zkEVM in July was a groundbreaking moment for us at Polygon, but also a big milestone for Ethereum and the whole industry. This was a major step towards the seamless scaling solution that the community had long been hoping for.

According to the blog post, the primary difficulty in developing a zkEVM is figuring out how to make use of ZK proofs in a setting that is consistent with the EVM. The more efficient a zkEVM is at creating ZK proofs, the farther its compatibility with Ethereum will be pushed. Polygon’s open-source ZK proving system was nearing completion and implementation as the team prepared for testnet, and they were aiming for maximal EVM-equivalence in their efforts.

Polygon claimed to have completed a significant task. Polygon zkEVM has accomplished a first for the zkEVM community by releasing a fully functional, open-source ZK proving system onto their testnet. Therefore, Polygon can show that its own proving system is capable of producing ZK proofs inside its counterpart of the EVM.

Polygon co-founder Mihailo Bjelic says: “We invite the whole community to try out the testnet, help us test its limits, break things, and identify bugs, so we can altogether deliver the first zkEVM to the world!”
