La principal agencia de protección financiera del consumidor de Estados Unidos está considerando la posibilidad de utilizar la Ley de Transferencias Electrónicas de Fondos (EFTA) para proteger a los consumidores de las criptotransferencias fraudulentas.

En su intervención en una conferencia sobre pagos celebrada el 6 de octubre por el grupo de expertos Brookings Institution, el director de la Oficina de Protección Financiera del Consumidor (CFPB), Rohit Chopra, dijo que su agencia está estudiando aplicar la EFTA a los "dólares digitales privados y otras monedas virtuales."

"Para reducir los perjuicios de los errores, los hackeos y las transferencias no autorizadas, la CFPB está explorando la posibilidad de proporcionar orientación adicional a los participantes en el mercado para responder a sus preguntas sobre la aplicabilidad de la Ley de Transferencia Electrónica de Fondos con respecto a los dólares digitales privados y otras monedas virtuales", dijo Chopra.
