An initiative known as the Satoshi Nakamoto Republic wants to erect a statue to the mysterious creator of Bitcoin in the capital of Ukraine. If everything goes according to plan, the statue will be placed on the plinth where a statue of Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov—known more popularly as Lenin—once stood. The statue was pulled down during the Maidan revolution.
“Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, will become the first city of the world, where the monument to a man of the future, but not the past, as it usually happens, will be erected. Now the process of discussing the project of the monument is taking place,” the organization said.
The very first stage of this process will involve an augmented reality app that would show the statue on its pedestal if visitors point their phones’ cameras at the location.
After this has been implemented, the Satoshi Nakamoto Republic will speak to the authorities in Kyiv to begin the project of erecting the statue itself.
“In case the petition will be declined, the monument to Satoshi Nakamoto will be erected on another location. Now there is a wave of interest on the part of business to erect the monument on one of the territories of the contemporary technological business centers of Kyiv,” the organization added.
According to the people who engaged in this bold project, the Satoshi Nakamoto Republic will eventually be a city on an island dedicated to Bitcoin where the largest Satoshi statue will be on display. It will be, according to them, a “virtual decentralized blockchain republic.”
Competing with the Satoshi Nakamoto Republic would be the Free Republic of Liberland—which has plans to use cryptocurrencies as its currency of choice—and an alleged crypto-haven that entrepreneurs are building in Puerto Rico.
