Moldova will host its first major blockchain and cryptocurrency event, welcoming international experts to the World Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Summit (WBC Summit) in Chisinau, the capital city of Moldova, on May 11. WBC Summit Chisinau will take place at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM) and will feature more than 20 speakers and up to 300 participants.
The list of speakers includes prominent figures who have already confirmed their presence, among them:
- Mirko de Malde, president of Rome Chapter Government Blockchain;
- Kayode Babarinde, co-founder of ChainAfrica.org and member of Cryptography Development Initiative in Nigeria (CDIN);
- Victor Tabori, head of International Relations at Hungarian Cryptocurrency Foundation. Other major players in the blockchain space have yet to confirm their participation.
Some of them are:
- Branko Krsmanovic, founder of Blockchain Serbia;
- Vishal Nigam, chairman of the Indian Blockchain Council;
- Mantas Rukuzia, founder of Blockchain for Business Lithuania.
The event will also feature several blockchain enthusiasts and experts from Moldova, notable mentions being:
- Vitalie Tarlev, State Secretary for Information Technology and Communications at the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure.
- Vadim Ceban, First Deputy President of the Executive Committee ATU Gagauzia Republic of Moldova;
- Grigore Belostecinic, Rector of ASEM.
Lee Gibson Grant, co-founder of the Digital & Distributed Technology Moldova Association (DTMA), has also confirmed his presence as a speaker. We reported that DTMA is the first blockchain-oriented association in Moldova.
The conference speakers will address various blockchain and crypto-related topics, including the influence of digital currencies, applications of blockchain technology, blockchain programs in universities, and use cases of the technology. The organizers also plan a panel discussion titled “Legislation: country positions, opinions, perspectives.”
The conference will open with a welcome speech from Rodica Crudu, director at DTMA and member of the WBC Summit Chisinau organization team.
Cryptovest reached out to Crudu to get some insights on the blockchain sentiment in Moldova. According to her, Moldova has great potential when it comes to distributed ledger technology (DLT), and many investors have already voiced their interest in the region. She revealed that the government was not supporting the summit financially but has been invited to do so. Crudu said a working group would be created during the summit to analyze the experience of different countries in the development and implementation of a blockchain legal framework. The ultimate goal is to draw on their experience in drafting policy and law recommendations for Moldova.
Commenting on the WBC Summit Chisinau, Rodica told Cryptovest:
“The purpose of the summit is to create the most accessible, politically-oriented forum in which business and government leaders can learn how blockchain can influence the efficiency of their work. As blockchain makes significant innovations in financial services, pioneers are beginning to recognize its opportunities in areas like energy, transport, healthcare and even the arts.”
She went on to add:
“This event will bring together the main actors working in various fields, creating a cross-pollination of ideas and approaches that would give new insights and discover more growth opportunities and, most importantly, will contribute to shaping the future of blockchain technology development in Moldova.”
Rodica said the goal of these interactions was to translate research results into policy documents that would stimulate the development of blockchain and cryptocurrency at the national level. The potential policies should also encourage projects that create innovative products and services which could enhance Moldova’s international competitiveness.
