  • LG Electronics’ LG Art Lab platform has announced it is collaborating with American sculptor Barry X Ball (NYSE:BALL) to feature new artworks at Frieze Los Angeles 2023.
  • The artworks will include NFTs and a 24-karat gold-plated sculpture by the Brooklyn-based sculptor.
Launching on February 16, LG Art Lab, LG Electronics’ native NFT art app featured on its new WebOS 5.0 TVs, is releasing a set of new artwork to be showcased at Frieze Los Angeles 2023. The artworks will highlight the artist’s in-process sculptures of Pope John Paul II.

NFTs or NFTVs?

Barry X Ball’s work has been widely exhibited in different exhibitions worldwide over the last 35 years. The New York-based sculptor is renowned for using unconventional materials and unorthodox techniques such as 3D digital scanning, virtual modeling, and more.

In collaboration with LG, the sculptor will release four 39-second kinetic NFTs at a Los Angeles art exhibition. LG will showcase the kinetic NFTs on its newest lineup of OLED TVs, augmenting Ball’s sculptural practices into the digital realm.

The NFT collection will exhibit variations based on four metals, including black steel, gold, copper, and silver, available via LG Art Lab. Each NFT will be presented using LG’s large-screen OLED TVs, including the 97, 83, and 77-inch LG OLED G2 and C2 series models at Frieze LA. The LG OLED Easel and Pose Lifestyle Screens will also showcase the artwork at the LA art showcase.

Barry X Ball, who is based in Brooklyn, shared,

"As a leader in the technology space, it has been a privilege to collaborate with LG on this body of work. My goal from the beginning of the project was to establish a new standard for the visual arts. The resultant NFTs would not be possible without LG's flagship OLED technology, which enables me to create a fully immersive experience for art viewers, with rich, deep blacks and radiantly-intricate details." Each NFT will reportedly “morph” from raw base metal into their respective shades, leveraging LG OLED TV’s color accuracy and detail using eight million self-lit pixels.

The NFTs are based on the Hedera Network. Barry X Ball and LG have shown a deep commitment to the network’s technology and innovative capacity for creative initiatives.

On the Flipside

  • Hedera Network’s token, HBAR, has surged by 78.2% over the last 30 days, according to CoinGecko Data.
