Investing.com - Foreign investors’ acquisitions of Canadian securities increased more-than-expected in April, led by corporate debt instruments, official data showed on Monday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said that foreign investment increased by a seasonally adjusted CAD14.91 billion in April, compared to expectations for an increase of CAD4.59 billion.
Foreign investors’ acquisitions of Canadian securities rose by CAD0.96 billion in March.
Meanwhile, Canadian investors added CAD2.8 billion of foreign securities, a third straight month of acquisitions.
Following the release of the data, the Canadian dollar remained higher against its U.S. counterpart, with USD/CAD shedding 0.17% to trade at 1.0159.
