Kim Kardashian West, the popular reality television star and wife of rapper Kanye West, put a Bitcoin token on the table of a charity poker game. This may not seem like a big deal to people following crypto, but given her massive fan base, the celebrity brings at least some attention to anything she mentions.
This occurred in the "If Only" Texas Hold’em Charity Poker event, held in Los Angeles to raise funds for “City of Hope”, a research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes, and other diseases. Kim was accompanied by her sisters Khloé Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, and mother Kris Jenner.
Here is the picture, which she tweeted:
Creating a physical token representing Bitcoin isn’t a new idea. A few companies are offering such a service (including scammers), but a widely accepted solution is yet to establish itself. When looking at Kim’s photo, we can see one of the objects (the coin) looks like an ordinary novelty-shop trinket. Next to it, you can see a plaque, reminiscent of the ones traditionally used in Monte Carlo instead of higher denominated chips.
The latter token is courtesy of Matthew Roszak, co-founder and chairman of Bloq, who has also bragged about giving Bill Clinton and Richard Branson their first Bitcoins. He tweeted this photo, to immortalize his latest “crypto recruit”:
Kanye West has also been rather optimistic about the future of Bitcoin. In a recent interview, he expressed his feeling about the digital currency, mixed with an emotional reaction about political and racial issues:
“That was the moment when I wanted to use Bitcoin, when I saw [former slave] Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill. It’s like when you see all the slave movies, it’s like why you gotta keep reminding us about slavery. Why don’t you put Michael Jordan on the $20 bill?”
It’s also worth pointing out, his one-word long tweet from April ignited the interest of the crypto community. It would be interesting to see, which (if either) member of the celebrity couple will have a bigger influence when it comes to Bitcoin.
