Mining malware attacks became more frequent in 2018 and became one of the biggest threats this year, according to Kaspersky Labs. Malware attacks peaked in March 2018 and somewhat declined as market prices sank for most digital assets. But the threat remains current, and hidden mining still happens, as it is relatively easy for attackers.
“Moreover, mining has started to command as much (or more) attention as ransomware: this year we encountered several examples of reprofiled malware with added functionality for cryptocurrency mining,” pointed out Kaspersky Labs.
