Former Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba has joined the long list of celebrities and athletes who have endorsed digital currencies.
According to the Russian news agency RT, the former Ivorian striker has signed up as all.me's latest ambassador. All.me is a cryptocurrency platform that provides users with a share of their advertising revenues.[G1]
Drogba told RT in Moscow, “It is a project in which I believe a lot.” The athlete was wearing an all.me t-shirt during the interview to stress his endorsement. Drogba is also sharing his picture using the company’s t-shirt as part of the endorsement deal.
The platform was founded by Armenian businessman Artak Tovmasyan, who claims to have raised more than $30 million when the website was launched. Tovmasyan plans on conducting an initial coin offering (ICO) in the fourth quarter of this year, the report added.[G2]
“This the first ever digital platform that combines a social network with a cryptocurrency bank and a trading floor. While before digital platforms took all advertising income for themselves, now we share up to half of it with the users – depending on how active they are,” Tovmasyan said in a separate interview with RT.
According to all.me website, it will share 50% of advertising revenue with its users based on several factors such as activity, popularity and content.
Tovmasyan came up with the all.me concept in 2015. The digital platform has a hard cap of $100 million.
Several athletes and celebrities have been attracted in the crypto craze. Last May, Colombian football star James Rodriguez, who currently plays for the German club Bayern Munich, announced the launch of his own cryptocurrency, called JR10 Token, in a bid to create a stronger fan base. Rodriguez signed a deal with blockchain-focused startup SelfSell for technical assistance in creating the token.
He wrote in a Twitter post:
Earlier this year, Philippine boxing legend and Senator Manny Pacquiao launched his own digital money called PAC Coin in partnership with Singaporean startup Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX).
The boxer-turned-politician, who is also the only eight-time world boxing champion, is the first investor into GCOX, a digital currency exchange platform which also allows celebrities to create their own tokens.
