US-based furniture startup, Dims, is gearing up to launch a line of furniture NFTs based on a previously released physical collection. Only last week, Dims released an assemblage of real-life outdoor furniture by Dutch designer Christian Heikoop; this is the collection that will be launched as NFTs.
Eugene Kim, Dims’s founder and CEO, said:
Crypto and smart contracts had been on our radar for years, but once NFTs took center stage last year, we started to understand how some of the technology could be harnessed for what we do.
The luxury furniture brand is releasing a collection of 2,000 NFTs. And though NFTs can only be purchased with cryptocurrency, Dims has collaborated with Venly so that customers can buy them in US dollars.
Another feature of the Dims NFT is that it also includes a permanent coupon entitling the holder to 15 percent off all Dims merchandise for life. Owners can keep the NFT or sell it on the open market.
According to Kim, the proceeds Dims raised from the NFT sale will go toward recovering the cost of engineering, tooling, and prototyping the furniture. Kim also believes that NFTs will enable them to support a renaissance in emerging design in the future.
