In the recent World Blockchain Summit in Dubai, many blockchain industry leaders visited the CoinQuora media lounge. Vít Jedlička, President of the Free Republic of Liberland visited us and gave us some insights on the topics of blockchain, cryptocurrency, and Liberland.
Q. Can you briefly introduce yourself?
Happy to do that, my name is Vít Jedlička I’m the founder and the first president of the Free Republic of Liberland, which was founded some six years ago. It wants to be the freest country on this planet. We are really proud of our Constitution and the rules behind it. We are planning to have a voluntary tax system in our small country — only seven square kilometers between Croatia and Serbia. But it’s a beautiful piece of land that we are planning to develop into something like a new Dubai or Singapore or Hong Kong.
Q. Smart cities have been a hot topic. But you’ve made a smart country — how does that work?
What we’re doing is we’re implementing blockchain on the governance of the state. So, if it’s a system of justice, or if it’s voting in Congress, or in the Senate, or if it’s a public veto number, all citizens, it’s all running on one blockchain platform, which is transparent, and you can also do budgeting and register properly on top of it. So, it does everything that the traditional state does. We have used the latest blockchain technology that was out there to make it possible. We have been working on it for the last nine months, quite diligently. We have combined our Constitution, which is very Libertarian, very freedom-oriented with the latest blockchain tech, which I’m quite proud of.
Q. So it will be more transparent, right?
Not just transparent, but you know, very efficient. Nobody’s gonna count the votes. They’re all counted by blockchain, the whole system will be running as the first decentralized autonomous government, which I think is kind of cool. We’re not dolls, but we are DAC in that sense.
Q. Are you creating your own CBDC? What’s your opinion on other CBDCs as well?
We’re working on my monetary ecosystem. So far we have Merit which will be the governance token of Liberland. But we are also implementing basically the currency of Liberland. It will be possible to use both in physical as well as the digital Liberland. So we are working on that part as well. It will also be running on top of our blockchain.
Q. How do you find the World Blockchain Summit so far? How do you find Dubai?
It’s a really exciting event, and I was supposed to stay in Dubai only for five days and I’m already 11 days here. We came for the Ritossa Family Office Summit, which was a great event. I’m really excited that Ritossa himself was the organizer of these big family office summit events and showed huge support for Liberland. And we simply have, you know, two high-level meetings with other ambassadors or, or people that are representing some country and then to high-level meetings with somebody big or we just hit the CZ of Binance here in the hallway. So, we’re really excited to be here in Dubai during these days. And it seems it’s not ending this month, right? The Expo is so huge. We are actually doing the first-ever blockchain conference at Expo. So, there are some really cool events here. And people that are in the blockchain business shouldn’t miss it.
Q. What’s your opinion on trending topics like let’s say DeFi, or blockchain gaming?
Well, this is what we’re still exploring right? We are having a complete plan for how Liberland will be developed by Zaha Hadid and that’s one of the top architectural studios but definitely top 10. And this architectural studio designed two out of seven kilometers of Liberland. So, it is a 3D world itself. So, we have actually taken some of the best providers of the visualization technology and we turned it into a metaverse, in which you can walk and you can literally do whatever you want. So, we are trying to add the gaming elements to it. It’s not going to be like GTA we want to have like a conferencing and presentation stage for sales. But we will try to add some fun elements to it. Maybe there will be a casino there or something else very soon as well.
Q. What are your thoughts on the regulations? Like? I mean, compared to your country, there are a lot of other countries who are very antagonistic on Bitcoin or blockchain in general. So what’s your opinion on those?
Well, we were the first country to ever basically start using Bitcoin. We did it directly on the day when Liberland was started, there was already a Bitcoin address there. So, we have that experience and right now, we’re so excited that there is a second country after Liberland El Salvador has adopted Bitcoin as an official currency there. So, we use that opportunity to do some charity work. We actually donated a couple of bitcoins to the Children’s Hospital, in the capital city as a token of appreciation and also as a sign of future collaboration between our countries.
Q. Do you have any final thoughts that you want to share?
Well, the motto of Liberland is live and let live and we are very open to new citizens, new e-residents, and new businesses. So, whoever you are and you share our vision of a freer world we are very happy to have you on board.
