A hacker was supposed to buy enough hashing power for just $10 to take over the network of Einsteinium (EMC2) in a 51% attack. An advance announcement gave the date of the event as October 13. The community bought all spare capacity, making a mockery of the hacking attempt.
The trace of the attack remains, as seen in a temporary spike in hashrate. Following the attempted offensive, live broadcast social platform Twitch suspended the hacker’s account.
