The crypto influencer, Lark Davis, tweeted a question on Twitter today. In the tweet, Davis asked if Ethereum (ETH) will ever flip Bitcoin (BTC) in terms of market cap to be the biggest crypto.
Looking at the two market leaders, BTC has a market cap of $400,248,946,999 at press time while ETH’s market cap is estimated to be $187,081,203,401. This is according to the crypto market tracking website, CoinMarketCap. Given the current market caps of both coins, BTC still has a comfortable lead and it’s fair to say that ETH won’t overtake BTC any time soon.
Currently, the prices of both coins are down over the last 24 hours. BTC’s price is down 0.59% and ETH’s price is down 1.37%. As a result, BTC is changing hands at $20,778.45 and ETH’s price stands at $1,528.77 at press time.
Weekly chart for BTC/USDT (Source: CoinMarketCap)
BTC is trading near a major weekly resistance level at $21,214.67. In addition to this, its price has broken above the 20-week EMA line this week. The weekly MACD indicator still flags bullish as the MACD line is currently positioned above the MACD signal line.
Furthermore, the MACD histogram is positive. All of these weekly indicators suggest that BTC’s price will overcome the aforementioned resistance level.
Weekly chart for ETH/USDT (Source: CoinMarketCap)
ETH’s price is also trading above the 20-week EMA line following a lot of buy support entering the market over the last week. ETH’s price is now looking to overcome the 50-week EMA line as well. Should this happen, ETH’s price will need to overcome the resistance level at $1,939.62.
