Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck, which experienced a major hack attack in January, has resumed the creation of new accounts and enabled deposits and purchases for several virtual coins pronounced secure by external experts, according to a statement released on Tuesday by platform owner Monex Group.
The restored account creation service is currently available only to Japanese residents, and each new application will go through a know-your-customer (KYC) procedure, as explained by Coincheck. The Tokyo-based platform has also allowed purchases and deposits of Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), and Ethereum Classic (ETC), which were previously available only for selling and remitting.
