Bitcoin Gold (BTG) has been added as a payment vehicle in one of the largest Azeri hotel booking platforms, Hotels24, in a bid to attract new customers, the company said on Monday.

Hotels24 already supports several cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), Ethereum Classic (ETC) and Dash (DASH).

“One of our strategic goals is to provide service in several currencies including crypto-currency and blockchain technologies for payment in our platform for increasing the solvency of the users,” Anar Abbasov, co-founder and technical director at Hotels24 said in a statement.

Tourists from the country as well as abroad can use BTG coins. Hotels24 offers booking services for around 700 000 hotels worldwide but crypto payments are available only for Azerbaijan-based hotels, of which there are more than 200.

“After checking out the website, we decided that we could have a fruitful cooperation. I am sure that this partnership will be successful and useful to everyone,” Franco Niebles, co-founder of Bitcoin Gold, said.

Hotels24 does not disclose its number of local and international users but claims to be the leading hotel reservation service in Azerbaijan.

The former Soviet republic has a lot of natural resources, especially oil and natural gas. The tourism industry has grown rapidly in recent years as Azerbaijan has started investing considerable sums into various cultural, sport, religious and youth events. Last year, the country attracted more than 2.6 million tourists. Over the first three months of 2018, the number grew 13% on a year-on-year basis and reached around 1.5 million people, mainly due to the Nevruz (Persian New Year) celebrations, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The Azerbaijani hotels base consists of 40,000 beds in 575 hotels including international brands such as Excelsior, Hilton, Four Seasons and Fairmont.
