TOKYO, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average briefly turned positive on Friday after Kyodo news agency reported Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan will hold a news conference on the government's steps to cope with the yen's strength later in the day.
The benchmark Nikkei, which started the day down 1 percent, moved briefly into positive territory before again trading down 0.2 percent or 17.21 points at 8,889.27. (Reporting by Elaine Lies; Editing by Edmund Klamann)
