The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation has released its World Food price index for September, which is comprised of 55 different food commodities and is calculated as the average of the five components weighted by their average export share. During September it averaged 215.8, up 1.4 percent from August but still well below the February 2011 peak at 237.9. The index rose mostly on strengthening dairy prices, while meat and cereal prices also rose. Sugar and oils both fell.
