Market movers today
Attention will continue to be on the development in eastern Ukraine where the fragile ceasefire so far seems to hold. Opinion polls on the Scottish Independence vote will also attract attention ahead of the referendum on 18 September.
A very light data calendar today. In the UK manufacturing production and trade balance for July are due for release. Manufacturing activity in the UK has lost a little bit of momentum in the wake of the soft patch in continental Europe.
In the US NFIB Small Business Optimism will be released but this is a tier-2 release unlikely to have a substantial impact.
A number of central bankers will be speaking. ECB member Erkki Liikanen will speak at 12:30 CET in connection with a hearing in the Finnish parliament. Bank of England governor Mark Carney will be speaking at 12:45 CET in connection with a trade union congress in Liverpool and we should probably expect a slight dovish bias in that connection. Finally, Fed's Daniel Tarullo (neutral, voter) will testify before the Senate Banking Committee. He will mainly cover regulatory issues.
There are no key movers in the Scandi markets.
