Late in the trading day on Thursday, after weeks of flirting with the psychological barrier of 100 JPY to the greenback, the USD/JPY finally broke through for the first time in four years. Stock markets tumbled, with the USD rising against the main international currencies. The loonie was unable to overcome the headwind, losing 0.6% on the session.

Friday's (May 10) Canadian jobs figure data have analysts expecting 15k new jobs for April; any unpleasant surprises would worsen the loonie's fall. So far in 2013, Canada has lost some 25k jobs. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke will be giving a speech in Chicago on financial controls. Have a great weekend! Gardy Pharel
